Battery Replacement Service in Skokie, IL
How long has it been since you’ve checked your battery? The power supply can last a while, but its function deteriorates. Fortunately, our McGrath Evanston Subaru service staff is able to assist you. Continue reading this guide to find out this part’s purpose, spotting warning signs, and the replacement process.
The Purpose of the Battery
Your vehicle is powered by an electrical unit known as the battery. This module is built with durable plastic casing and is filled with an acidic liquid, which holds enough charge to dispense power to various portions of the car. When you turn the key, the battery initiates a response and energy is sent throughout the vehicle and onto components like headlights, climate control, and even touchscreens. Turning the ignition over will generate a spark and fire up the pistons that powers on the engine. As the car idles, the chemical and mechanical energy produces more electricity and sends it to a component known as the alternator. This device converts the power from the motor into current that’s sent back to the cell. That way, you’ll be able to travel the Skokie area without depleting all of the energy from your battery.
Warning Signs
Batteries have a lifespan of three to four years, but it’s common for drivers to encounter problems. One of the issues you’ll face is corrosion. This usually shows up as a white powdery substance on the terminals or residue on the housing. If you examine the contents under the hood often and notice a foul smell, your power unit could be failing. Are you usually charging the module every time you stop at locations around the Emily Oaks Nature Center? A battery that doesn’t hold electricity is usually defective. Another problem you could face is a swollen case. When this occurs, our Service Department recommends getting the cell changed as soon as possible to avoid significant damage.
Replacement Process
Now that you know about some of the issues you’ll encounter, let’s discuss how the battery is replaced. First, our mechanics test the electric cell by using various tools to check the voltage. If the unit has a 11.8V reading or below while the car is off, it needs to be changed. After starting the vehicle, any voltage under 12.8V is a sign that the module should be switched for a new one. Once it’s determined that you need a fresh energy supply, our technicians will disconnect the terminals and uninstall the battery. We’ll provide a factory-fresh component to replace the old part. Finally, we can equip your vehicle with a new battery. Our team will test the unit to be sure it’s in working order before sending you off to paths like U.S. Highway 41. This task can be done quickly, so visit our Subaru Express Service to get it completed.

5 Star Service! A couple shout-outs. Jeff helped us get moving on a build sheet and purchase order, and was extremely communicat
Eddie my service guy was exceptional.
“ Eddie my service guy was exceptional. He originally got a “no” from the warranty company about my coverage, but called them back and talked to a supervisor. He persisted and got my repair covered, as it should be. It said it right there on the contract. He also worked with me on the best price for tires. Eddie was great! My only snafu was in picking up my car (the next morning because there was no courtesy driver available). I paid, then waited 10-15 minutes for my car to be driven up, which it never was. I finally walked around and found it, right outside the garage and tracked down someone to just give me my keys. Clearly, there was a mess up in communicating to someone to get me my car, even though both the cashier and a guy whose attention I was able to get said it should be coming soon. ”
They care about keeping our Subaru in the best running condition. Thank you for caring!
“ I bought this 2010 Forrester for my sister 12 years ago. We have taken our car to Evanston Subaru for all our service needs and have always been treated well. I recommend this dealership. It is staffed with good people and competent mechanics. The facility is always clean. This is noticeable. They even wash my car without being asked.. When the service personnel recommend areas needing attention, I trust them for caring for our safety. They care about keeping our Subaru in the best running condition. Thank you for caring! ”
George worked with my budget for an oil change and back brake replacement. Extremely kind.
“ Great. I called first so it would be OK to get my 2018 Subaru Forester towed in because the engine oil light came on, with a message on my dashboard. George told me since I didn't have an appointment it would be worked on the next day. (The towing service was great). They found a quart of oil missing, and some other things to fix. George worked with my budget for an oil change and back brake replacement. Extremely kind. Then they always fill the tires with air, and give a free carwash before I go. The technicians worked really hard in 104 degree weather. I waited in the waiting area: free coffee, water and a granola bar. Thank you! ”
Every experience I've had at this location has been great and I'm sure everyone who works here is wonderful.
“ Every experience I've had at this location has been great and I'm sure everyone who works here is wonderful. That said, Eric is a cut above — he's just incredible. We recently had to get a good amount of work done on our 2015 Forester which had not been taken in for some time. Eric walked me through several different options for repairs and servicing, all with different price breakdowns, and made sure I understood what each service/repair was and why he recommended it. He also worked with his service manager to get me a great deal by not charging to replace our AC condenser which had stopped working. I had stopped going to this location because we moved and it wasn't as convenient, but after this most recent experience with Eric I will only take my Forester here. Wish I could give more than 5 stars! ”
