About the 2026 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid
The 2026 Crosstrek Hybrid marks the model's return to a hybrid powertrain, after a three-year hiatus since Subaru discontinued its previous plug-in hybrid version of the Crosstrek. The new and improved traditional hybrid Crosstrek is a two-row compact crossover SUV ideal for small families, couples, or solo adventurers, and it's a great commuter for around the Chicago area.
This handsomely designed small SUV has a futuristic look, with eye-catching 18-inch dark gray alloy wheels and a unique, aerodynamic shape. You'll have the choice of two exclusive exterior paint colors, Sand Dune Pearl and Citron Yellow Pearl. It's expected to be available in the three usual Crosstrek trims: the Premium, Sport, and Limited.
Interior Comfort and Space
According to MotorTrend, the 2026 Crosstrek Hybrid offers a roomy, comfortable interior similar in size to the 2025 Crosstrek. Front passengers in both models enjoy a roomy 42.9 inches of legroom, and rear passengers ride comfortably with 36.5 inches of legroom. For storage and luggage needs, the Hybrid maintains almost as much space as the current gas-powered Crosstrek — with the second-row seats upright, the Hybrid has 18.6 cubic feet of cargo space, while the 2025 Crosstrek has 19.9 cubic feet. Both Crosstreks offer a generous 54.7 cubic feet of cargo space with the second row folded down.
Infotainment and Connectivity
Subaru is known for including cutting-edge technology features in its vehicles, and the 2026 Crosstrek Hybrid is no exception. The automaker equips this new hybrid compact SUV with a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, paired with the latest SUBARU STARLINK Multimedia infotainment system. This 11.6-inch, tablet-style touchscreen combines emergency support, navigation, entertainment, climate control, and more. It also supports hands-free Bluetooth, satellite radio, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration to keep you connected. Plus, the software systems update over the air, so you don't have to make extra trips to the dealership.

Subaru says the new Crosstrek Hybrid is the most powerful Crosstrek that they've made. The hybrid powertrain consists of a 2.5-liter SUBARU BOXER engine paired with an electric motor system that generates a combined 194 horsepower. Complementing this system is a continuous variable transmission for a smooth, comfortable ride and a lithium-ion battery for its all-electric driving range.

One of the standout off-road features you'll find in the Crosstrek Hybrid is Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, which utilizes the brand's proprietary drivetrain technology for enhanced safety, stability, and control. This system is mounted low on the vehicle to make the center of gravity as low as possible, providing maximal weight balance to reduce rolling and pitching. This makes for a safer and more stable ride, even when cornering or navigating twisting mountain roads, and it also ensures you and your passengers stay comfortable.
Fuel Efficiency
While we don't yet have the definitive EPA estimates for the 2026 Crosstrek Hybrid's fuel efficiency, Subaru touts this latest model as the most fuel-efficient Crosstrek to date. The 2023 plug-in hybrid Crosstrek offered 35 mpg and 90 MPGe combined, and Subaru expects the hybrid 2026 model to offer a 20 percent improvement over those numbers, with an anticipated range of 621 miles. MotorTrend estimates the new 2026 Crosstrek Hybrid could get a combined fuel efficiency of approximately 42 mpg.

Subaru equips the new Crosstrek Hybrid with its latest EyeSight driver-assistance technology. George told me since I didn't have an appointment it would be worked on the next day. (The towing service was great). They found a quart of oil missing, and some other things to fix. George worked with my budget for an oil change and back brake replacement. Extremely kind. Then they always fill the tires with air, and give a free carwash before I go. The technicians worked really hard in 104 degree weather. I waited in the waiting area: free coffee, water and a granola bar. Thank you! ”

We recently had to get a good amount of work done on our 2015 Forester which had not been taken in for some time. Eric walked me through several different options for repairs and servicing, all with different price breakdowns, and made sure I understood what each service/repair was and why he recommended it. He also worked with his service manager to get me a great deal by not charging to replace our AC condenser which had stopped working. I had stopped going to this location because we moved and it wasn't as convenient, but after this most recent experience with Eric I will only take my Forester here. Wish I could give more than 5 stars! ”
